What does it cost to move?
One of the most frequently asked question is how much does it cost and it has no definite answer. The cost of a move is based on many factors including length of time, distance, and the manpower involved. Price should not be the deciding factor. Moving should be about getting your family and your items belongings to your new home. The reputation of a moving company should go a long way.
How do I start packing for a move?
Packing is one of the most important parts of your move. It is recommended that you have the appropriate moving boxes. The ones you can get from grocery stores may be free but they're not nearly as durable or padded. They are more likely susceptible to causing damage to your valuables during the move.
Remember that the heavier the item, the smaller the box that it should be in. Buffer and separate fragile objects with blankets, sheets, towels, and pillows. Fill in empty spaces to minimize movement during transit. Always mark boxes containing fragile items.
I'm looking to buy a home, what should the inspection include?
The professional inspector that is hired will evaluate the foundations, ventilation, roofing, plumbing, insulation, and electrical systems, pest situation (termites), heating, ceilings, septic tanks, floors, and toxic materials. The inspector is not responsible for latent defects, meaning anything that can't be seen. However, the seller is required to announce all known defects.
Are there any moving expenses that are deductible?
The moving process can be costly. However some moving expenses can be tax-deductible.
Job-related relocation is tax deductible if your new job is 50 miles away from your old job, the IRS lets you claim some expenses as tax deductions.
Packing and unpacking expenses includes materials and services, such as moving services and boxes.
Transportation to your new home includes moving trucks, personal travel, and rental vans. Hotels and lodging is also deductible.
Moving insurance includes either standard, declared value or full replacement value.
Storage for up to a month during the relocation is also tax deductible.
Donations during moving are the best time to rid you of unwanted possessions. Toss aside everything you don't want to bring. If you give your unwanted items to charity, you can deduct your donations. Keep a list and estimated value of what you've donated, along with the receipt from the charitable center, and send in both items with your tax return. However, there is such a thing as too many donations.

How do I keep my cat from going back to the old house once we move?
Cats tend to become more attached to their environment than people do. As you settle into your new home, spend some more time with your cat. Sit down with the cat and provide your cat with a comfortable living space. Keep it indoors and around the house for as long as it takes them to become accustomed to the new surroundings. Limit the cat’s explorations to only the new house and then gradually follow it on tours outside.
Confining the cat may seem a bit harsh, but cats are more likely to go back to the old house, no matter how far away it is. This could last up to a month before the cat becomes familiar with the new house, the scents, and the noises the cat makes on the new floors and carpets.
